THE
LONGTAILS
1980 to 1981: A very brief but glorious moment in the history of unheard of improvised rock music of Kent, the Longtails resided in a scout hut on top of Shoreham Hill, a few locals would sometimes wander into their rehearsals - really just "tripped out" musical evenings - and quite a few of them ended up playing along. The Longtails were one of those missing links that explain the historical interludes, developments, obscure beginnings and alternatives in modern music that contradict the accepted versions pedalled along endlessly like an old bicycle by those in the public eye. With roots in 70s Pixie Prog and Beefheart/Magic Band, to odd Victorian waltzes, psychedelic dub and auto-didactic post-punk poetry recitals, The Longtails were pretty weird.
Not yet available, but work on transferring the tapes to digital and the compilation thereof is almost complete, and late-2010/early 2011 should see the first CDs of these precious archive tapes being produced. |
